Wedding Day

Wearing the wedding dress that she chose with her beloved grandmother,  the beautiful bride held onto her father’s arm.   Her loving protective father whispered,  “If you don’t want to marry him, we can leave right now.”   The bride smiled and whispered,  “I love him Dad.”

Waiting for his bride to be at the top of the church aisle, the groom stood with his best man at his side.  His dad gestured with a thumbs up that he returned.  A loving gesture shared over many years between a father and a son.  He smiled because he loved that beautiful girl in that wedding dress.

A few short years before the wedding day, the bride wasn’t too sure about the groom.   He was overly confidant, opinionated, and more stubborn than old mining mule.  She was kind, accepting and very considerate.

The first time they met the bride asked, “Aren’t you Rick Oxley?” The groom only heard an angelic voice.  He saw the most radiant of smiles and her wonderful sparking brown eyes.

He was instantly taken back and somewhat scared.   He knew at that very moment that he just met the girl he was going to marry.   Her smile and sparking eyes went straight to his heart.

A friendship developed between two young adults.  They enjoyed being together.   She was a true lady who made her groom want to be a better person.

The friendship evolved until one day the groom finally found the courage to ask his bride out on a date.  She smiled and said yes.  One date lead to the next and soon the friends were truly in love.

She reached the top of the church aisle.  The groom looked into those sparking brown eyes and was warmed by the brightness of her beautiful smile and simply said,  “You’re beautiful.”  That smile could light the darkest of nights.

The Lord blessed the couple on that August day as they received communion from the bride’s grandfather.   Through their first 28 years, the couple celebrated joys and persevered the challenges.   A son joined them to complete their family.  Laughter and joy filled their home.

Twenty-eight summers have come and gone.   The groom still marvels about the bride with those beautiful brown eyes and amazing smile.  She is all that he will ever need. She is everything to him.
